    We’ve just rolled out an update to the Add Bookmark page, known as Easy Mode.  We’ve had a lot of people request this, as they found the process of manually writing the Title field, including spintax {|}, to be overwhelming.

    This new mode will allow you to enter only the bare minimum fields while adding a bookmark, and the system will auto-generate the rest.

    If you click the “Easy” button, it’ll switch to “Advanced” mode, which is the same ‘ol functionality that you’re accustomed to.

    In “Easy” mode, simply paste a list of your keywords in the new Keywords field, one per line.  Enter your primary keyword on the 1st line.

    Here’s how the old fields are being auto-populated:

    Title

    The hidden Title field typically becomes the anchor text for any social media backlinks you’ll receive.

    The approximate weighted values of the auto-generated Title field are:

    • 40% keywords
    • 40% URL and its variations (non-http, http, domain only)
    • 20% generic terms

    These values were chose in order for your backlink profile to appear as natural as possible.

    Tags

    The hidden Tags field is generated from your Keywords.

    Submission Rate

    This field will be hidden in “Easy Mode” and defaulted to “Normal”.

    Submission Limit

    This field will be hidden in “Easy Mode” and defaulted to <blank> (no limit).

    Microblog Message

    Your Keywords are used to generate the microblog message, using spintax {|}.

    After adding a bookmark in “Easy” mode, you can go back and edit it in “Advanced” mode, to have access to every field again, and full control over all its properties.

    Let us know how you like it!

  • Improved Spin Logic for Social Submissions

    We’ve been reading all the great feedback through our User Voice page, and one enhancement people wanted was for us to generate a unique spintax {|} variation for every distinct social media submission, and not just for each ‘share’.

    We took this to heart and got it done.

    Here’s an example…

    Bookmark Title = SocialAdr is {awesome|great|kickass|super duper|swell}

    Before

    When a Free user sees this bookmark, decides they like it, and clicks a button to submit it to their social accounts, our processing engine would generate a spintax variation of the Title, and use that for all the social accounts for that user.

    Delicious = SocialAdr is awesome

    StumbleUpon = SocialAdr is awesome

    Pinterest = SocialAdr is awesome

    Diigo = SocialAdr is awesome

    …and so on…

    Now

    Now our processing engine generates a spintax variation of the Title for each of the social accounts for that user.

    Delicious = SocialAdr is awesome

    StumbleUpon = SocialAdr is kickass

    Pinterest = SocialAdr is super duper

    Diigo = SocialAdr is swell

    …and so on…

    Hopefully that makes sense :)

    We weren’t super concerned with the old logic, because search engines don’t discover all the links immediately anyways, it can often take weeks for them to discover some of the links.  And if your bookmarks are receiving submissions each day, and for every user who shares your bookmarks a spintax variation is generated, over time there should be a lot of variety.

    But…this new logic is definitely better, there’s no doubt about that.  It’s yet another step forward in reducing a footprint.

  • Add Bookmark – Autofill Fields

    Due to popular request we’ve added a new feature:  Autofill Fields

    You’ll see this new button on the “Add Bookmark” page.

    Here’s how it works:

    1. Type or paste a URL into the “Address” field.
    2. Click the new “Autofill Fields” button.
    3. The Title, Description, and Tags fields will be autofilled.  The text is pulled from the HTML <HEAD> tags as defined on whatever webpage is listed in the Address.

    We still recommend you spin the Title and Description though, but at least now you’ll have some applicable text to use as a starting point.

    We’ve bumped up the # of bookmarks that Free members can view in the “Share Queue” from 20 to 40 so that should make it easier for you folks that are very selective on what you share.

    Also, we’ll unfortunately no longer be submitting bookmarks to Mister-Wong as they are now charging a monthly fee for accounts.

    These changes are all part of v2.35.
